I was in my local convenience store a few days ago and bought some milk for $5.99. I gave the guy six bucks and waited for my penny in change. He said he was sorry, they can't get pennies from the bank anymore. He then took a nickel out of the till and offered it to me, and I accepted it. I then thought, he's being too nice to me. So I offered it back. He said, no it's okay, please keep it. So I did. When I got home, I took a look and it turned out to be a 1957-D. Nothing to write home about, and not in that great a condition, but for me, it's a keeper.

That nickel has been around the block a few times--if it could talk...

I hope that low paid cashiers are not expected to cover the shortfall. There needs to be some proper store policy.

$5.99

Yow! I haven't bought moo juice in at least 30 years and didn't realize it cost that much.

Now if they don't have cents for change why the Heck not just price the milk at $6 ? Or does that seem too expensive compared to $5.99 -

Yes, a gallon of 2%. If I had made the trek to Walmart, I could have gotten the same thing for about $3.40. But that's why they call it a convenience store.
