I think thats what attracted me to them davisfad , I was able to aquire stunning examples for little money.Something didnt seem right.
Lately I've noticed the price almost double in general for decent quality Franklins.
Its still relatively low as opposed to other halfs, oddly I've regularly seen JFK halfs sell for more than Franklins in the same condition.
I like all the halfs and have an example of at least one of each type except the flowing hair.Kennedys are fine but ill never understand how they sell for more than a Franklin.

I will be a classic in my book in 2013, when the last year of Franklin half dollars celebrate their 50th. |

I voted "Classic" as well......and I also think that the "Wheatie" should be a Classic too. It "is" a matter of time and years really......What was not considered a "Classic" when I was 10 years old, should fit into that category "at some point" with enough time......but when is this ? When a coin has 40 years from it's last minting ? ..... 50 years ? .... 70 years ? ....who is to say really.....who is the "decider" on this  ..... the "composition" (like Silver) really can't be the deciding factor either......because there are A LOT of coins out there considered a "Classic" that are "non-Silver", and never were Silver..... But when will that terminology be generally accepted this way by the "collecting world" for the Franklin or other coins ?.....well......who's to say, but probably, it'll just slowly grow that direction until it's printed in coin books and the "professionals" all shake their head "yes" that it's time for this coin to be considered "A Classic".....  And by the same "theory pondering".......when will the Presidential Dollars be considered a "Classic" ? ....hmmmmm ? .......  Start a "Poll" for THAT one ! ..... |

I disagree on the Lincoln Cent as we know it in its present form since 1959.The nickel has merit as the design has changed and it does pre date the Franklin , its only shortcoming is design and material. The Rosie has stiff competition and can hardly be looked on as a classic in the shadow of the Merc and Barbers,never mind the seated , all beautiful coins. The Ike I wont even get into ,its a joke right ? Of course it is , one big cupra nickel joke , it makes a mockery of an otherwise fine post. I also started up a collection of the Franklins about 3 months ago and have actually been enjoying it as much as IHCs, my other main interest. |

The "Ike", the "Wheatie", and the "Franklin" are now officially re-named into a new catagory called....... "Classic Moderns" ..... The "push" to change the world can only begin with the first step, and it has to begin somewhere right ? .....  Edited by eaglefoot

Maybe those three should continue to be called modern, and we call the newer ones, post-moderns?

I like Ike , I dont currently have one as id need a special order to get a silver one , ill find one on the bay one of these days Jbuck.
Im after a bust dime right now that will "bust" me out for a while..sigh..
