I was thinking a bit lower and on the opposite side of the body but yeah - The Mint realistically can charge what they want and there will still be people buying them, complaining but still buying - go figure!

Is there anyone that Thought differently,

When spot was @ approx $50.00/oz, The Mints were charging about $100.00 for an ounce of Silver coins.

With spot @ approx $90.00/oz almost double the previous released prices, They are Now charging $173.00 for an Ounce of Silver, Old dated or 2026.

Every old dated Silver product Just took a Leap into Reality......

Seeing Many " die hard " collectors sharing their disappointments Here is a Sad, Sad time for Us All.

Our collective decisions to gather shiny objects is Remarkable, Very Unique that We took the time and efforts to acquire such examples of American Coinage, and Currency.

Seems that Now that precious metals are going through the Proverbial roof, Lets take the time to be Very grateful to of amassed such Beauty, To share what We have in the future , It's disappointing having costs like these, making a Total change in Decisions going forward.

I Also believe the Silver and Gold markets are Far from Topping out The discussion about Silver coming down and Crashing That's another Topic. IMHO, The Precious metals are not going to crash anytime soon, Think About it. Especially Silver!!!

It's Long Over due Moments like this, While I am grateful and Content with what I personally have collected, I am Hoping others Here realize, We had the " best of Times ", Things will Change along the way. Sharing Our Numismatic treasures Here in Photos and Discussions, Priceless......

This is just ridiculous. I knew their was going to be a price hike in the silver coins, but why so much of a increase in the non silver sets. This may have just killed any further collecting on my modern coins. And to be honest it makes me not even want to bother collecting. So disappointed I can't see paying $125 for a mint set for less than $6 face value in coins just so I can put them in my album. Even the $107 proof set and $60 for a reverse proof AI dollars is too much.

I just got back into coin collecting in April of last year and now I wish I never did. I don't even know what to say or think about this right now...ugh.

This isn't as much of a price hike as I expected

The average spot price for silver in 2025 was $40.21

The Proof ASE was $91 which is a 126% mark up

Silver is curently $90 and may go up quite a bit more in 2026

At the previous mark up, ASEs would be $202, so $173 isn't as bad as it could be

I just did the math and if I just buy one of everything I want it's only $1160

It's a lot more than I expected. . .will review the pricing, my budget, and decide on the first couple of subscriptions that were pushed out. Too late tonight to do any serious digging. . .and I want to take time at the USM e-commerce site.

So it goes.

Youtubers and stackers have been predicting soaring spot prices for years and it's finally happening. I don't buy much from the US Mint but did two comparisons. Of course spot prices change and depends which source used.

If I calculated correctly:
Feb. 2021 I bought a 2021 proof silver eagle from the mint for $78. Spot price that day $27.35, about 185% above spot.

August 2023 I bought a 2023 Morgan dollar from the mint for $80. Spot price that day $23.63, .859 oz silver works out to about 294% above spot.

The 2026 proof silver eagle at current $173, when I checked spot was $90.16, about 92% above spot.

So the markup is not super high but still a shock to our budget. When buying from the mint it's not about spot prices for stacking but for collecting. I plan to buy the 2026 dual date proof silver eagle but likely will be my only mint purchase this year.

If you pay for shipping that changes the calculations some.

It looks like I will buy just one each of the three Mint sets (uncirculated proof, silver proof) and leave them in the OGP. No longer on my list are any of the medals. Certainly not any of the ASE. The enhanced uncirculated Morgan and Peace will be missed as well.

I won't be buying anything from the mint this year. My subscriptions are for three each of the three ASE proofs and three of the Silver Proof Set. I will be cancelling all of these subscriptions.
