I'm not entirely sure it's anything numismatic - just because something is round and made of metal, doesn't mean it's supposed to be a coin. I don't think there ever was any writing or other markings on this piece.

The pattern of lines on both sides makes me think of a tortoise/turtle shell. So my very-wild-swing guess would be some kind of turtle-themed jewellery that it was originally attached to.

I was somewhere between a turtle and a volleyball.

But agree it doesn't look like a coin.

Based on the edge photo, is this a detector find?
