I purchased this beautiful 1911C Canada gold sovereign at a coin show in January of 2025. Bought it for $680CDN. In January of 2025, the Canadian spot price for gold was around $2,755 per ounce. Now its at over $6,789CDN. I don't plan on ever selling it no matter what the price of gold is at. What do you think of it? Does anyone want to guess what the grade is for it?

Nice coin, I would guess somewhere between AU 55 and MS 62 based on photos. I find gold is tough to grade unless in hand.

Glad your keeping, I keep looking at mine and feel tempted, but would rather keep them. Great coin.

I feel the same.

I have a 1902 British half-sovereign and a 1914 US quarter eagle, both well circulated that I've been thinking of selling just to cash in on the crazy gold prices, and then buying back some uncirculated ones once prices come down.

But will they....

@johnny sprawl - that's an interesting proposition, sell your circulated stuff and use the proceeds to pickup better quality. I'm not familiar with either coins market, but I wouldn't be surprised if the MS premium has been overtaken by the base metal value. You may be able to find a nice MS version of the coin for the scrap price or something very close to it.

Soverigns except for the rare year and high ms graded are just bullion coins, but the exceptional rise in gold has made up for any numismatic value
