He revolutionized astronomy with the publication of his book De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres) in 1543. In it, he formally proposed the heliocentric model of the solar system, stating that planets revolved around the sun, not Earth. Here are a couple of coins commemorating his legacy.
