Hope this doesn't keep you away from making your boxes for too long, you've got a real talent there.

I've been lucky so far, with never even a broken bone in 72 years...except maybe a pinky toe in elementary school. But I'm not sure, didn't go to a doctor for it.
Get well soon, and take the advice being offered by the surgery veterans in the thread!

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the kind words of support. The anesthesiologist performed what he called a nerve block on my right arm ahead of the surgery. I essentially had a dead weight attached to my right side with no feeling and no pain. That wore off yesterday afternoon .... and my arm is letting me know in a big pain way it's still there. The surgeon gave me medicine for it, so a rough night but this will pass. Quote: Hope this doesn't keep you away from making your boxes for too long, Surgeon thinks 2 to 3 months and I should be able to resume some light shop activities. The bigger miss for me is my teaching. I'm President of our local woodworking guild (302 members) and I volunteer to teach 4 separate topics to beginners. The professional and patient instruction means a lot to them and I get a lot of joy in sharing my knowledge. Alas - thats on hold as well for now I'm sure it will all work out. Here I am with 4 guild students teaching a class on basic box making:

Nickelsearcher, I am glad you are on the road to healing. Your boxes are truly pieces of art, your students are fortunate to have you as a teacher.

Best wishes, nickelsearcher! It seems that you're capable of sinister typing, so hopefully you'll be spending a bit of time here.

nickelsearcher you and I are falling apart. Had my right hip replaced,my left knee, now in May going in to have right knee replaced. Knee surgery is the most brutal surgery. Never had my elbow done, who knows I may have to the way I'm going. Just plain sucks getting old. That's why we come on this great board to get young again.

Visited the doctor today for post-surgery followup.
Great news is the cast is off and the stitches in my right elbow have been removed. Doctor says the wound site looks good.
Now I have a somewhat awkward 4-point brace on my right arm that extends from the upper arm to my wrist. It's designed with a mechanism that limits my elbow range of motion.
Next Tuesday I start PT to regain that range of motion. Thats going to last 6 to 8 weeks.
In the meantime I'll live in this new brace, which thankfully I can remove to shower.
I think I'm typing well enough to kick off my 15,000 post contest. Check it out - and I hope you participate!
