"No more coins" is not likely to happen in the lifetime of anyone presently breathing air. But, even if it did, that would hardly be the end of coin collecting.
I've been arguing for the discontinuation of the Cent since the introduction of the zinc Cent. The Nickel should've joined it, and hopefully it will soon. I also agree with the end of the $1 Note, while simultaneously introducing a $2 coin, and of course continuing the $1 coin.

The penny (cent) today is a horrible symbol of America- it is made of copper clad zinc. Maybe a copper penny, or better a copper large cent, but some clad zinc thing? Not a great symbol. My 2 cents.

Quote: The modern day public has never accepted a $1 dollar coin - why would they accept a $2 coin? The Dollar coin will never be accepted; until there are no circulating dollar notes. The $2 coin has been accepted by the public in countries where it is in use, such as Canada. The result of inflation is that a dollar today has the same purchasing power that a Quarter dollar had in 1980. While the Quarter has only slightly more buying power than a Nickel did then. The Nickel and the Dollar Note both need to take a hike, for the same reason as the Cent did (overdue as it was in happening). Quote: Tipping dancers with coins would never work. I was tipping them Dollar Bills more than 50 years ago. Don't you think tipping with dollar bills is a bit on the cheap side, today? After 50 years I think they deserve a raise. Dollar Bills ain't got the flash as they used to did.

Quote: For those of you who say the mint has only manufactured cents and not pennies, that may be, but our banks have been giving out penny wrappers ever since the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913.

Quote: Next, cease the production of ALL coinage... Coins have become more of an inconvenience than a convenience to our modern, card-loving society. No more making, carting around and handling near worthless disks of metal. END IT ALL You are not wrong.

Quote: Wow, Thad, that's quite a statement to make on a website for coin collectors! No more coins! Hmmm... There will always be coins to be collected—ancients, classics, etc. These collectors care nothing about what comes out of the world mints today because people die and those coins come back on the market. I see no end in site for coin collectors, present and future.

Quote: The modern day public has never accepted a $1 dollar coin - why would they accept a $2 coin? Get rid of the $1 and $2 notes, they will be forced to. Eliminating the notes is mandatory if you want coins to work. Every other country in the world figured that out. Why can we not do the same? Because lobbyists.

I see no end in site for coin collectors, present and future. My response to that is that many of us don't have the finances to buy classic coins. For me there's nothing like finding a current coin in circulation that fills a hole in a folder. So I count on what I can get out of circulation for face value to give me the fun of coin collecting.

Yes, the loss of change and roll hunting will hurt. But most of the coins minted the past 75 years will still be cheap. Junk bins will still exist. Etc. There is no shortage of ways to build modern sets.
