Looking to verify I'm not going crazy. Have a 58 proof penny that when I took it out of brown envelope I thought it was a well scratched coin. When I stuck it under the scope it looks like a complete mess but turning it slowly it almost looks like this coin was struck with something else. I said a nickel because next to 't' in cent looks like a structure going off the coin. but then then I kept looking and I see a patch under the of America and it looks like a well scratched area But if you turn coin a little more you see number 8 and if you turn it more it looks like coin was struck 20x What would you call this mess?
If it's a proof, then it's impaired with those fingerprints. I would suggest wearing gloves. Don't handle coins with your bare hands, if you can help it. What you're seeing is probably scratches and Pareidolia.
Next time do not post any screen shots of your scope. get the original images it takes - AND please center your coins, properly crop, and make sure it is properly oriented upright.
Well die polishing lines are not PMD for one. And 2 those look more like scratches on the cent than they do die polishing lines. So, PMD is correct though! - correct term is an "Impaired Proof"
