It's a beautiful coin for sure. I'm not an expert on the series but my eye sees a well struck coin. I edited your title to include the denomination. Please be mindful to always include this in your topic titles. Thanks!

The strike quality is excellent on this one. Very nice coin! For the grade, I'm thinking MS-64.

Very nice strike for a 40's S Mint. With all the marks, looks MS-64 to me.

EDS for sure. Minor lite scuff in the obverse field and a tiny one on the reverse. Look at those ankles on the Eagle...nice details! I'd call her MS-65 Nice WLH! smat
edit for grade

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought it looked good too but I love getting opinions on here too! I see a few comments of 64 but maybe the strike allowed her to go to 65. If anyone's interested I can post pictures when she arrives (yes I went for it!) Now I'm interested in trying to get good strikes of the other 1940's S dates. That may be a fun little challenge to embark on next!

A "typical weak strike" - I'd have no problem at 65 for visual appeal - the Eagle's feet are very detailed......

finding a full hand is a mission.
i have seen several MS64 coins that are similar and some MS65 coins that are similar
there are quite a number of small marks on that left leg and the right field abrasions that appear to be superficial probably from banging around in a bag with others. the reverse rim may also draw down the grade a tad.
MS64+

Agree, for that date it's an excellent strike, and nice luster as well. I'd say an easy MS-64, with a chance at 65.

I'll echo what everyone else has said. From a Buffalo nickel collector's perspective, I'd trade a point on a technical grade every time for an EDS coin and another point every time for a well struck coin. Eye appeal matters, and die state and strike are huge elements of eye appeal. Nice looking coin! Apart from that, it's what caught your eye with this coin. Others will notice the same thing. Trust your instincts for quality and eye appeal.
