I like the Jefferson nickels. I have nearly a complete set 1938 - 2022, but missing mostly a few S proofs from 2008 on and a 1969-S proof, and then all the coins 2023 onwards.

Quote: Realistically - once you complete the first few pages of a Dansco album of UNC coins you are just looking at slightly above face value coins There's a simple reason for this. most collectors end their collections at 1959 or 1964 so there's little demand for later coins. They don't collect them because they are believed to be common and because they are mostly poor quality. But even in MS-60 there are far more 1950-D nickels than many of the post-'64 dates. In chBU more later dates emerge as being scarcer than the '50-D. Many of the scarcest Gems are from this later period. Some collectors will think, so what, but what they don't realize is that even the '39-D exists in XF but the later dates do not. They are gone and weren't saved. The scarcest regular date of the series in Gem by far is the '82-P. Then it's probably the '83-P & D. Sure, the coins are cheap but this reflects collector preferences not availability.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Jeffersons are great! I have a graded 1938-64 proof and business strike set and raw 1965-2026 set with most of the pre 2000coins colorfully toned. Very under appreciated series.

Jeffersons were the next logical step--after Lincolns--when I began collecting coins in early 1971 at the age of 11. They were plentiful in change and easily had. As a kid, any money was precious, but I could afford to give up a nickel every now and then for the Whitman folder. You could easily find almost all the dates and mint marks in change, including 1938 and 1939. In fact, I have two boxes of Jefferson tubes that contain dates from the 1930s through 1959.
To date, the only unfilled holes in my Whitman folders are 38-S, 39-D, 39-S, 50-D, 79-D, 2024-P and 2025 P & D. All the coins in these folders (and the tubes) came from what I received in pocket change from when I made a purchase at a store.

Apart from my collection of Jeffersons, I also have these, which I consider vandalised...

i completed the 38-61 from rolls in the early 80s. The newer ones dont interested me so I never followed up with any more, but I do still pull them from circ when I see them, to include the 68-70 s mints. I also have found several of the 41-s large s that I have kept.
the set I have isn't worth much but its mine. the kids can have it when I die!!

I've found that Jefferson nickels are interesting up until 1971. After that, personally, they are kind of meh until 2004 when all the changes started. However, what I find interesting is the series as a whole. Kind of the same for Lincoln cents IMO. After the 70's, IMO, they aren't really interesting anymore.

With an interest in WW2 history - and of course coin collecting - I've always liked the War Nickels! I have been putting a set of them together, MS65 or better, with full steps.

I like to personally hang onto whatever earlier Jeffersons I find. 38, 39, 40's.
I actually have several blank pages in my Dansco album dedicated to whatever older Jeffies I find.
I don't know why... They are just... Interesting to me. Perhaps it is that old faucet of them being "old". I still think they look cool, though.

I especially love the look of the uncirculated war Jeffersons. That bit of silver gives them a sharp pleasing appeal. Conversely the circulated versions get a weird greenish appearance.
