funny how that chip goes around the MM and maintains an even gap while doing it.

It's a very unusual Die Chip, Dearborn. Never seen one like it before.

Pretty unusual Die Chip for sure. The fact that there's a gap between the bottom of the neck and the mint mark is even stranger.

exactly, maybe it is a dent on the die instead.

I'm pretty sure it's a Die Chip, since it's raised. Looks too large and round to be a Die Dent. It's definitely a weird one.

I agree that the gap around the mint mark is unusual. A die chip should reach the mint mark since it's a weak point and incuse on the die. A die dent wouldn't respect the boundary like that, it would be right through the mint mark, too. Even hubbed in debris would touch the mint mark.
An odd anomaly, for sure.

Thank you, Brandmeister for commenting. It's a weird oddity for sure. I could be wrong and it might not be a Die Chip. If it is a Die Chip, then it's the most unusual one I've ever found.

I started thinking it might be a die dent as well, but after looking closer (especially the date in your second image), I'm inclined to think this is some extreme Die Deterioration, like die subsidence(?). Do you notice any design weakness opposite the anomaly?
