I am not an expert on this subject, but I have broken open slabs and the damage is usually greater then what you show. The missing plastic chunk is concerning. This is a Thousand dollar coin and there are so many fake slab coins out there. Go to the NGC website and enter the registration number and see if the coin matches up with the coin in the slab.

Based on the photos on the NGC certification site, it looks like the exact same coin, so I suspect it's just damage to the holder.

Agree that it looks like minor damage to the slab. This common gold coin should sell in the $550-600 range in this grade. You should be able to find slabbed examples in MS-63 for very little more money.
