Take a look at the two Morgans and see if you can see anything interesting. No, I did not submit these coins to PCGS myself....

Do-You-See-Anything-Interesting?

Once you see it see if you can tell me how this happened...

The one on the left is counterfeit.
No idea how it happened. Looks like the were both submitted together
so maybe the grader just assumed they were both genuine.

Help me out with that one, JimmyD.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Yes, 'certification' numbers are sequential. Might be fun to see the reverses.

It is easy when you have a side by side to compare with.
The nostril on the fake is oval shaped. On the genuine one it is elongated.
Look at the 1 in relation to the denticles.
The 8 is a different font.
There are other minor differences in the hair etc. but
this should be enough to determine authenticity

Just goes to show that even TPG's can miss detecting counterfeits.

At this point I see no difference other than the right one looks beat all to heck and should not be the same grade. As far as the 1 in relationship to the denticles, it's kind of like mm placement, it can be different on this date.

Yeah, I don't see that either is fake. You'd have to be some sort of wizard to make that toning on either coin. Even without toning, they both look like real nicely struck Morgans. So what are we supposed to be seeing? Why submit them at all, MS62 not even worth $100.

To clear the air. Both are legit. Neither is a fake. The PCGS Numbers are sequential. The odd thing here is that they were purchased a couple of weeks apart during two different Great Collections auctions. Obviously an individual seller put them up for auction and the process was PCGS graded both coins one after the other, hence the sequential numbers. They were just put up at two different times. I just happened to win both of them never knowing until tonight that they were sequential. Just one of those little oddities...
