Quote: That may get the member involved. I'm sure there are LOTS of people involved that would love the already amazing prizes for this contest However no one is going to post unless they can beat the ridiculous amount that is in the lead right now Congrats on the ridiculous amount btw

This looks fun, I think I will try to get a stack together. When is the end date for submissions and what is the current lead?

Wait! Who is the current leader. 141 by Aussie Latman, or 110 by chris12018. It's pretty hard, I actually had 110 beat working with the kids... but I was shooting to beat 141 when they came down. I shouldn've been taking pics... and frustration made me stop...
Anyway, I just want to know what the current high mark is.

I believe I see the answer to my question.
THe rules clearly state:
Materials- Only US small cents may be used for construction.
So, the 141 is technically out as they were Australian pennies.
110 is the number to beat, right?

Correct, 110 is the number to beat... atleast according to the rules anyways.

Yes, 110 is the number to beat. I have always said I am ineligible, it was just too much of a challenge and too much (frustrating) fun not to give it a go. But come on now, you're not going to let an Aussie build a stack 8 inches high and not beat that are you?

Does it help if I tell you I am a builder by trade?

Only if your usual building materials are small cents.

I am finally back at a conventional computer. It is MUCH easier to keep myself updated. I have been stuck using my phone for the past few weeks.
Congratulations to chris12018 as he won the roll of Wheaties as the mini prize.
The contest for the grand prize and highest stack does continue for another week so are the rest of you just going to let him win right out of the gate? Sheesh....
Lets add another mini prize for motivation....
ANOTHER wheat roll going to highest stack as of this Sunday night at midnight.
Yes, Chris could very well walk away with this roll also.... Everyone else going to just sit on the sidelines and watch as I ship everything to Chris?
-Good luck to everyone-

Don't give up. You have to make sure the surface you are using is dead flat. I even put a little wedge under the corner of my desk as my stack was leaning that way. Build it 10 coins at a time, the less times you have to touch the stack the better, using your ruler to keep all the sides aligned and even, until you get to a point where it starts to lean. Take a picture and then add fewer coins each time, taking a picture each time just in case. The trick is to keep the coins as aligned as possible and don't breath.

latman100, Are Aussie cents consistent rim thickness? Or are they thicker on one side and taper to a narrower rim thickness. Gforce don't quit, your almost half way there.

Well Chris, you now have two rolls coming your way....
And for the record I got the wild hair in me to give ole Chris some comp.
I went and counted out 111 coins and went for a stack. I knew at the very beginning that this contest is far more difficult than it looked but I KNOW it can go higher than 110. I have seen higher stacks in person in college. Much higher.
It took about 15 minutes but only three tries to beat the current 110 stack. I didn't bother with a pic as I figured why bother.. Now in hindsight I should have taken the picture just to motivate others so they can try and thwart Chris in his runaway sweep through this contest.
Hint to you potential stackers- Worn coins are much easier to stack as pennies are notoriously uneven when fresh minted. Inspecting the coins you are using can also be elemental in avoiding the ones that will cause accelerated leaning.
Next mini prize to be anounced this later today when I get home.......
