I have a few Canadians I am thinking about sending to slab and was wondering which would be a better one. A few people told me that NGC was the best at grading Canadians. Should I go with them? look forward to your opinions. thanks

In Canada they prefer ICCS for grading Canadian coins.

I looked into ICCS but don't really like their holders. plus, I read a couple of articles about them letting a few fakes slip though the cracks and certified them a real. Don't know much about CCCS. I will check their site out and see what they are about before making a final decision. Thank for the input.

i looked into that CCCS and the soft flip cought my eye think I have some coins I may send to them

Hello,
I am an American in Canada (for 5 years) who is developing a fairly serious collection, at least in certain areas.
For what ever reason, Canadians have NO respect for NGC. I get outrageous bargains on NGC coins here, even best ever graded.
They have more respect for PCGS. An attractive PCGS coin can draw good money.
But.....they have complete (perhaps misplaced) faith in ICCS (not CCCS). For an American, the best of all worlds is to get PCGS certification and cross certify at ICCS. They will give you a certificate without taking the coin out of the PCGS slab. If a coin is worth it (and ICCS is a small price after PCGS) highly cross-graded coins are worth more than a coin graded by EITHER service. It increases my bid typically 50% above PGCS and 15% above ICCS alone.

Hello Steve, well as far as ICCS goes, I'm not a fan.. My experience with them is they have favorites for sure for whom they will give better grades... As a test I submitted the same coin on 5 seperate occasions using the help of a few family members.. All 5 times it came back with different grades... Another fellow tested PCGS and NGC they cam batted 75% or so the same ... And CCCS have not tested them but have sent many coins to them and to say I am pretty happy... Now for the better deals selling ICCS I have trouble getting 50 % of trend for their slabbed coins ... And I have been at this for quite some time.....

I was in New Jersey when NGC started and personally like US slabbed coins over their Canadian equivalents. I personally consider PCGS and NGC to be interchangeable up to and including a 65 grade (after which I think PCGS a bit tougher).
I am not a fan of ICCS. While I own hundreds of ICCS coins (along with nearly as many PCGS and a few dozen NGC) for the areas I collect, Canadian PL dollars and MS large vents, PCGS coins sell at a huge discount to ICCS and NGC coins are almost unsaleable, especially NGC Canadian large cents.
For the kind of material I collect, PCGS might typically sell at 50% ICCS and NGC at 10%-20% ICCS. I personally have the #1 NGC Canadian Cent registry set for 1911-1920 including several best graded, but I have made it as a curiosity. It has almost no value here in Canada.

If you want accountable consistent grading of Canadian coins, CCCS is the way to go IMHO! As for the comment about ICCS letting fakes by? Can you provide more info? I would love to hear about this.

I agree with Steve, go PCGS and then cross grade with ICCS, IF you are a U.S. collector and plan on selling in U.S. Market.

coinsrfun or anyone else if you would go to my ccf and send me your email I will send you a couple of pictures of a 1948 Canadian dollar graded and certified by ICCS. This dollar to me is highly suspect and in my opinion is a fake as the image of the king is totally wrong.  with going with CCCS in Canada (have not heard of any issues with their grades and they seem to not play favorites) With PCGS in the USA as I am very pleased with what I consider a true and fair grade on my 48 $. Last point.. I prefer a grading company that has a web site that anyone can verify any coin. |

Not having a web site is the main turn off to me with ICCS. Why wait on the phone forever for something you can get done in seconds over the web.
