Any friend collects coins from China ?
I am from China. There are really too many coins, especially ancient coins & silver panda in China for you to collect. I am not so interested in ancient coins which is too complicated for me. I also have not started collecting silver coins which cost too much for me. I collect circulated coins from the world. And now my target is to collect non-noble metal commemorative coins from the world. Because commemorative coins are more meaningful and non-noble coins are not expensive.
First, I collect such coins of China of course. I hope to exchange such non-noble metal commemorative coins with collectors from other countries.

Here I'd like to introduce some commemorative coins from China to you.
From 1984, People's Republic of China began issuing circulated commemorative coins. But in fact, none of these commemorative coins have been circulated. Coin dealers bought, kept and sold them to make money. Collectors bought and collected them. Normal people never had a chance to find them in circulation. So this is really different with USA or Australia or other countries. You can find State Quarters, commemorative nickels in USA, you can find 20 cents, 50 cents or dollar commemorative coins from circulation in Australia.
Thus "circulated" commemorative coins from China will be hard for you guys to find and collect. I think the coin dealers in your country will mainly carry the silver or gold coins from China and only some proof made circulated commemorative coins. Non-noble metal coins are too cheap for them.

From 1984 to today, there are altogether 73 non-noble commemorative coins issued in China. Most of them are very beautiful and nice. I like them very much.

Some coins are really very meaningful.

Introducing-Non-Noble-Metal-Chinese-Commemorative-Coins
These coins are the 7 coins for the most famous and influential leader in China.
These YUAN coins are of nickel clad steel.

Lower left: 100th anniversary- birth of Chairman Mao
Lower middle: 100th anniversary- birth of Chingling- second wife of Sun Yat-sen.
Lower right: 100th anniversary- birth of Zhou Enlai
Upper left: 100th anniversary- birth of Zhu De
Upper middle left: 100th anniversary- birth of Liu Shaoqi
Upper middle right: 100th anniversary- birth of Deng Xiaoping ( Chairman Deng)
Upper right: 100th anniversary- birth of Chen Yun

These coins are not issued on year. They are issued from 1993 to 2005.

Introducing-Non-Noble-Metal-Chinese-Commemorative-Coins
The above 10 coins are of "world cultural heritage" in China. They are all of 5 YUAN denomination and they are of brass. This set is very meaningful and can really represent China. I also feel they are one of the most beautiful set of all the circulated commemorative coins.

Upper from left to right:
The Great Wall
Terra Cotta Army
The Imperial Palace
Confucian temple
Zhoukoudian ancient peking people site
Suzhou Yuanlin ( Suzhou styled garden )
Lijiang Gucheng ( Lijiang ancient city )
Mount Qingcheng & Dujiang Weirs

Now I have only taken photo of these coins. When I have time, I will make more to post here.

Hello bob_yan...

You have posted some very nice coins of China, coins that I have not seen before or even know they existed. You are right in saying quite a lot of us know only about the Pandas.

This is the real beauty of this Community, we all learn from one another as members here come from all parts of the world. In the process of doing so, not only do we enrich our knowledge but also our collections.

Please continue postingcoins of China...

Thank you for posting the Chinese coins bob_yan_cn! This is definitely a learning experience for collectors all over the world. I really like the Great Wall and the coin below it.
You are correct about seeing only commemoratives or silver pandas from China here in the states so getting to see some other Chinese coinage is quite fascinating. Thanks!

Lim, I will continue. This is really my pleasure and honour to introduce some nice Chinese coins to the forum.

bm1947, there should be no pity here. If you like any Chinese coins, please inform me and I will obtain them for you. These coins are hard for foreign collectors to get, but it is easy for Chinese collectors.
Just as lim said in the 1,000 member contest: what is pocket change to you in your country, may be hard to come by in another country.
But here in this forum, no coins will be hard for us to collect now.

Scoutjim99, some Chinese coins are really very very old, maybe 1000 or 2000 years old. And it will be quite difficult for foreigh collectors to figure out times of these coins. If there is anything I can help, please don't hesitate to tell me.

Hi bobyan...it is good to see we maybe able to avail ourselves of your services in sourcing of some issues from China. Likewise, we too may be able to help you with any issues you are after.

Having said that, as a moderator of this Community, please be aware members must have made at least 50 posts before they are allowed to buy/sell/or trade here.It may sound restrictive, but this rule was promulgated to protect all members here.

It will also do well to be aware that collectors are nervous about buying of coins from China. This is as a result of rampant counterfeiting of coins from China.

Please do not take what I have said the wrong way. As a collector, I would love to expand my modest collection to include in Chinese coins, but lack of knowledge and reliability of issues have prevented me from doing so. I would say they would be others like me.

We have had a member from China here before you, but communication was a major problem and he is no longer with us. From your posts, your english is excellent and you communicate well. I sincerely hope you are the member from China we have been waiting for.

I would recommand Panda America, a US dealer for mainly distributing Chinese coins if you wish to look around for more Chinese precious metal coins.

http://www.pandaamerica.com/coins.asp Click on the left panel and look for China and happy clicking. :)

Hi, Lim.
I understand and will obey the rules here.
I think I can post another "COINS EXCHANGE" thread under "BUY/SELL/TRADE" category after I have more than 50 posts.

There are really a lot of counterfeit Chinese coins. As far as I know, most counterfeit coins are old silver coins or ancient coins which are of very high value. So some people make counterfeit to make money.
For these non-noble commemorative coins, they are not of so high value and almost no counterfeit. Only for some expensive item, such as 40th anniversary of People's Bank of China, there are counterfeits. Because now for this YUAN nickel coin, the market value is almost USD200.00.

bm1947, Of course I can get you one set of the heritage coins. I'd like to swap also non-noble commemorative Australian coins with you. But I think I must obey the rules here and will swap with you after I have 50 posts.

Rare wild animals of China
From Panda bronze 5 YUAN commemorative coin in 1993, China issued 10 coins to commemorate rare wild animals of China. 1 coin in 1993, 1 coin in 1995, 2 coins in 1996, 2 in 1997, 2 in 1998, 2 in 1999.
They are all of bronze and they are all of 5 YUAN denomination.
Panda bronze coin is the first 5 YUAN non-noble metal commemorative coin of People's Republic of China and is also the first one of bronze material. Before that, almost all the circulated commemorative coins are of nickel material and brass material.

Dear Abyss, I will put more.
I am also interested in non-noble commemorative coins from Canada. Hope we can exchange some coins with each other later.

Renal, Long time no touch.
Sorry that I do not use MSN a lot.
But as we both will frequently come here, we can keep in touch easily now.

Lim, I have taken notes of " Lim must have" now. :-)
