I checked my records, and I paid 1.32 times spot price for an ounce. today that would be about $22. When I hit the auto adjust color button on Irfanview, they look like this...

Looks like it had some wrapper machine damage early on in life. Really weird coin. Never seen a cull tone in such a way.

Some pretty awesome coins here! Don't have anything to contribute, but these are definitely some good examples.

Are you sure it's toning and not a "black beauty" alloy mix chute? Not an expert on the topic, just thinking out loud

I was not familiar with the term "Black Beauty" and after a cursory search, think they were mostly made in 1959. I need to learn more.
An alternative theory is chemical exposure.
In my neighborhood there are some chemical plants and lots of paper mills. Many years ago, I had the job of cleaning out some of the large vats and metal sepparators. I found lots of stuff that got mixed in with the pulp - coins wrenches and hundreds of bullets. Every time I see a discolored coin, I just assume it came from one of the vats.

I think chemical exposure is more likely. It has a rough look.
