Hi all First, I have to say up front I am not a coin collector. I have a small container of older or minty new coins, and that is it. I popped over here from the STAMP forum... .. because when going through one of many coffee cans of pennies at my boyfriend's house, looking for wheats, I found one penny that seemed sorta "toned" like the ones on a particular dealer website I found, and others posted here. I have been reading posts here trying to figure out "rainbow" toning. It is mentioned a lot, but I have yet to see a simple answer regarding any additional value to coins with such toning. The dealer website in question has a whole page full of such coins, of all ages, and they seem to carry a premium. But I'm not getting that "vibe" here. Anyhoo, here is the penny. I know I won't be able to buy a Ferrari with it, just adding it to the batch here!

That cent is not too bad, and it's also a minor MAD (misaligned die). Nice find! to CCF as well!

Yes, welcome nells. Your 85 LMC is not "acceptable" value added toning. It's the kind that appears after a few weeks of one that was in fountain or a car cup holder during summer with fast food drinks sweating all over it.

CASCADE - I wonder what type of soda caused it! Could have been Snapple ice tea.. he was WAY into ice tea for a LONG time :-) Quote: and it's also a minor MAD (misaligned die). Nice find! You know, I SAW that when looking at the photos. Should I keep it in my little container of "nifty" coins, then?

That's an amazing sixpence! Quote: Should I keep it in my little container of "nifty" coins, then? It's not valuable enough for a 2x2 and it's not bad enough to spend, so yes IMO.

I agree with the comments about the 1899 Six Pence. I collect the veiled head coins of Victoria and this is one of the nicest silver coins I've seen.
