Thanks for all that info. Is there an alternative to safety goggles? Would regular glasses maybe work? With all the advice given I think I'm going to do it outside on a glass bowl. Thanks.

There are a wide variety of safety glasses on the market. Some are in the shape of regular glasses. Those are OK for the usual flying debris. Some are made to fit the face over the eyes completely. Note when dealing with different items or substances there are different reactions that are possible. And example is I USED to wear the normal everyday looking type of saftey glasses when shooting guns at a gun range. Semiautos send hot shells all over the place and they tend to bounce off the walls. I've had one episode where a shell fell behind my glasses and almost blinded me. Now I wear the completed ones all the time. For usages with almost any liquid, remember that a splash onto your forhead could end up with that liquid into your eyes if not the completed safety glasses that fit snug to the face.
Acetone into the eyes is something that could blind you comcpletely. When dealing with any harmfull, flamable, explosive, etc type of material, it is always better to be safe than sorry.

I think the difference between acetone at the drugstore and acetone at the hardware store is that the drugstore acetone is formulated to USP standards. I presume that means it is approved to be applied to the skin or blended into beauty products or somesuchthing. That process and certification makes it more expensive. If you are interested in trying acetone and don't want a gallon jug, go for it.
