had a good day detecting yesterday. found this aswell as a george 2 half penny a william 3 six pence a napoleon 3 dix centimes an a victoria six pence.its barley recognisable though but hopefully someone will know what it is. the reverse has totally gone and its roughly the same size as a british new penny.

Presuming we are looking at corrosion and not a face, it may well be a button. We could be looking at the shank side (shank broken off). It is common to find a manufacturer's mark (back mark) on the shank side. The fact that the other side is "smooth" is also consistent with a button. Other thoughts?

he he. yes it does look suspiciously like a button now you mention it. I just jumped to the conclusion that it was a coin straight away.i also find a lot of belt buckles detecting aswell. well I will hang on to it because I suppose it is fairly old and does have a history.

Yep, it's the backstamp of an old button. I'm not a button expert, but I'm pretty sure it's from at least the 1800s, perhaps a century or two older than that.
