I would go ahead and contact the U.S. Mint and Pitney Bowes and tell them what happened. Since it had "Delivery Confirmation", you might not get far but it's worth a try. If you charged this to your credit card, contact them and do a charge back if possible.
I have a set I will sell for $100 shipped (in U.S.) if you are interested.

Sorry to here this. I really hate delivery confirmation. I've lost 2 packages, one is a coin from Teletrade and the other is a Game console from ebay. I lost about $100 on these 2 packages. Both says delivered but I didn't receive anything. Delivered elsewhere or stolen. Because of delivery confirmation there's nothing I can do. The system sucks.

We should do something about it. Let us call our representative/senator!

I'm sorry to hear this. I do agree with Goldrush though, she should not be working in that job. Either it was a mistaken address or she did take it. Either way, not someone who should be handling the mail.

Sorry to hear about this. Let me tell you my experience with delivery confirmation that just happened on Tuesday. I had placed an order for four of the Lincoln Cent proof sets. It was to be delivered on Tuesday so I told the SO to watch out for the package. He was here all day, no knock or nothing on the door. I walk in from work Tuesday Night and over on our row of mailboxes for our building is a box laying on top. We live in a condo unit with 9 other units. I go over and look and its my package... just laying out in a common area where anyone could have come by and picked it up. So I go look at the tracking online... says it was delivered to my address when technically the carrier never even brought it up to our place. So you should never trust delivery confirmation despite what the Mint/USPS may say. I really wish there were other options for delivery of products... I mean what if I had a gold coin coming or something? I complained to our local Post Office that our mail comes out of and they didnt seem to really care at all... just said delivery confirmation simply can mean it was delivered to my building and I should purchase insurance and I had to explain the the US Mint does not offer insurance... so they told me to contact the Mint...just a big run around.

In rural areas where the carrier isn't even a postal employee, all items are scanned as delivered when they are loaded into the beat up 1984 right hand drive Cherokee at the PO at about 5 AM..... or not scanned at all.

I live in a house that doesn't have mail delivery, we have to get a PO box and pick up mail. I used to think this was a pain, but with the replies here it seems like not such a bad situation. I have to go and physically pick up anything that's sent as delivery confirmation.
Also FEDEX 'signature required' does not always happen. I bought a high end guitar that was shipped that way and was home, with the front door open and they left the package on the front step. No signature, but it was confirmed.

With delivery confirmation, having insurance will only protect you if the package is damaged. When its delivered else where tracking would still say it was delivered to the intended recipient. So even if the mint offered insurance its not going to help.

This is another reason I will not buy anything from the Mint. Why go out of your way to make a nice coin and/or set for a collector if you do not care if they get it or not? If I pay a premium for something I feel that it should cover some way to make sure I get it.
The problem is that there really is no one to blame and no way to find out what happened. Your delivery person may be the most honest person on earth and made a simple mistake, the package could have been placed in the wrong route with similar address or the neighbors could have had company that took it on the way out.
The part you may want to look into right now for future issues is the way your mail is delivered to your unit. If you are in a condo, town home or apartment you need to see why your HOA or owner does not have a larger box for parcels. The last place I lived was a condo complex and the smartest thing they did was put rows of mailboxes at the entrance to the complex with a few larger boxes for parcels. We never had a lost package this way and the confusion with neighbors mail was at a minimum. Just a thought.

Not trying to rub it in, but my Chronicles set fit in my mail box with a little room to spare. I have to agree with the aforementioned, that Delivery Confirmation is a feel good program for the post office. It was delivered, but to where?
success...

Sure you could have insurance, but if it isn't insured for over $200 it doesn't have to be signed for. So it could still be left at the wrong place and then guess what, the insurance will NOT pay off because the package was delivered. And as for the insurance still covering because of damage, you'll have to have the package to show the damage. If it was delivered to the wrong address, no package, no insurance. People like to think that the current shipping method where you only pay one shipping fee is better than the old system years ago where the shipping cost was included in the price. But at least back then everything was shipped registered mail and had to be signed for.

Quote: Sure you could have insurance, but if it isn't insured for over $200 it doesn't have to be signed for. That's incorrect. The post office gets a signature no matter how much insurance is bought but it's for internal use only in case of a claim. If it's got the blue tag, they're supposed to get a signature. However, the sender nor the recipient has access to it. If the sender wants a signature provided on the package no matter what, then he has to buy it even if the package is insured and the PO is getting one anyway.

I've never been asked to sign for under $200 insured package, they just leave it in the mail box. I do normally have to sign for the over $200 packages, but sometimes they just leave those as well.
