For once, even I agree with the Game Master's judgement.

jbuck, I do not follow your logic. We are supposed to be guessing market pricing? If so how can a minimum bid that was not met be correct? If it did not get a bid at 799 would that not suggest that the coins value is sub 799?
Just my thought.. Correct decision, restart the round. Go CCF

I really don't care, as I'm just having fun and learning a bit as I go. But jbuck's solution is definitely fair to all who guessed in this round.

We all know this price guessing game sometimes isn't perfect. But I think JBuck is doing a terrific job orchestrating the subtle nuances of this sociological dance between all our OCD personalities. I call for a Mulligan! (A "Do Over" for our non-golfing buddies!) I think it's the best solution for the game. And I don't think we should limit the game to coins we own. Some folks don't have a bunch of coins to choose from and this Forum needs to remain open to all levels of coin collecting. And I got 5 points!

Quote: jbuck, I do not follow your logic. We are supposed to be guessing market pricing? If so how can a minimum bid that was not met be correct? If it did not get a bid at 799 would that not suggest that the coins value is sub 799? For the record, I did not see the auction. I incorrectly assumed the $799 was a high bid that was not accepted. However, it appears that it was a starting price of $799 and no one bought it. The market (however limited by the access to that auction) did not see that high of a value in it. It could be that no one in that (limited) market needed it or that someone might have gladly paid $650 for it. That same coin might be offered in a bigger market and fetch $1000. In this case, the only advertised value is that placed by the seller. My original decision was to use the "sticker price" to determine the winner. It seemed fair at the time, but as trdhrdr007 pointed out, he had an unfair advantage. This is what makes this a game that anyone can win. You not only have to know the coin, but you have to know some details about the market the coin was sold. I leave it to each host to reveal as much or as little information as to where their coin is (or was) being sold, with the only exception being to give a time frame if this was not a relatively recent purchase. Here are the rules, listed on page one: - The winner of the round must host the next round. They can choose any coin they want, but must follow these guidelines:
- No finished auctions (eBay, Heritage, etc.) can be the basis for any round.
- If an auction is used, the round must end at least one hour before the auction does.
- If the coin is from a personal purchase, please round your final price to the nearest whole dollar.
- If you cannot remember the exact price paid, please use your best guess and establish this price (to yourself) before hosting the round.
- For personal coins that were not purchased recently, please give an approximate time frame the coin was purchased (earlier this year, ten years ago, etc.)
- Specifying that where the coin was sold (auction, personal purchase, yard sale, estate sale, etc.) is NOT required!

I guess I don't know the coin market that well cause I'm surprised the previous coin did not sell. It looked stunning and I would be glad to have that in my collection if I had the money, but hey thats part of the reason I'm playing this game. I agree with everyone else that the problem was resolved in the best manner possible. Good job jbuck. This susan b is also very pretty, but I will wait a few days to guess .
