Current status:Contest is done! Winners are listed below. Thanks for playing, and
M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S !Winners:Day 12: Jamaica 5 Shillings: Nancy Day 11: Austria 20 Heller: Ferret552 Day 10: India 2 Rupees: Nancy Day 9: Italy 50 Lire: Ferret552 Day 8: Cyprus 1/2 Piastre: Ferret552 Day 7: France 10 Centimes: nod2003 Day 6: Argentina 10 Pesos: DL20K Day 5: Iceland 5 Aurar: WpgLwr Day 4: Costa Rica 20 Colones: WheezyDog Day 3: Canada Large Cent: Ferret552 Day 2: UK (Great Britain) Crown: DL20K Day 1: US Dime: unnkown95 --------------------------- New rule: No editing of posts! Participation for Days 5 through 1 are based on participation activity in Days 12 through 6. If you made a guess in Days 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7 or 6 then you may participate in Days 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1.Remaining Coins:- - --------------Original Contest Information----------------It's time for a new contest! Perfect for the holidays, too. The rules are simple: Guess the country, denomination, and order for the list of twelve, and win the next prize. Twelve coins will be given away, in order from day 12 to day 1. At first, start out with 12 guesses of at least countries and denominations but you could also guess the position - I will let you know which are in the list. After the 12 countries/denominations (if not positions) are confirmed, then the guess of the correct order of those 12 coins wins the first prize (day #12). After day #12 is awarded, I will re-arrange the remaining coins and guesses will continue on the new order of the coins. The next correct guess on the order wins day #11. And so on. So the beginning is the real hard part Update: Day 11 through 7 will have new participation ended when half the positions are guessed. Day 6 through 1 will be closed to new participants, so if you want to try your hand, get in early. For the Day 1 coin, a correct date of the coin will also be necessary to win.If guessing at some point reaches an impasse, I will try to inject a clue or two. There's probably something I have not yet thought of, so if anyone has questions, holler One guess per day per round (twelve days + order to start, afterward just the order). Must have 50 posts to play and/or win. First clue: Coins could be from any country. Have fun! -------------Below is no longer needed------------- Countries NOT in the list: Afghanistan Albania Algeria American Samoa Andorra Angola Aruba Australia Bahamas Bahrain Bangladesh Barbados Belarus Belgium Belize Bhutan Bolivia Botswana Brazil British Caribbean Territories British North Borneo British West Africa Bulgaria Burundi Burma Cambodia Ceylon Chile China Columbia Croatia Cuba Czechoslovakia Denmark Dominican Republic East Africa East India Company Egypt Estonia Ethiopia Falkland Isl. Fiji Finland Germany Ghana Gibraltar Greece Greenland Guyana Haiti Hawaii Honduras Hong Kong Hungary Indonesia Iran Iraq Ireland Isle of Man Israel Japan Jordan
Hints so far:
- Coins could be from any country.
- The remaining # countries start within the first 10 letters of the alphabet. Once again, you guys hit a couple of the countries, just not the denomination.
- Specifically for 12/2 guesses:
none of the countries in syslav's list are in the current list! Besides the known countries.. two from WpgLwr's, one in Wheezy's, none in Nancy's, none in DL20K's, and 2 in nod2003's list are countries in the current list.
One of the countries, which has not been mentioned yet, at one time was under British administration. This one was Cyprus
- specifically for Nancy's list on 12/5:
--One country mentioned a LOT of times now is in the right position, but still needs the right denomination. --Fiji, Greece, Hawaii, and Cambodia are NOT in the list --Argentina 10 cents is ALMOST right
- Italics, italics, italics
- In 1966, #12 got 12, but none were gold.

Assuming there are 200 countries (some may argue there are more, some - fewer), and assuming one coin per country, there are 2,925,595,041,316,416,791,562,240,000 different ways to just reorder twelve countries. Assuming five possible different coins per country (very conservative assumption) to correctly assign denominations to each country will increase the above number of possibilities times 5 to the 12th power, that is times 244,140,625. Just wanted to share. I teach this kind of stuff for a living.

Naw one guess a day. I think it's nice to have contests running as we had a dry spell there. I also think some of us are on more than others (me). Let's drag it out I say. If you want to pick up the pace give a hint when you post the updates. Just my Two Cent Piece.
