It is like a tv show where you are about to find out what happened and who done it and it almost shows the face and then...

I agree with all of you. I have handled quite a few, so I think it is real.

And then the final post will come in saying "HUH, you people really thought this was all real? Sorry, just made up the whole thing." OR "Just found out it was lost in the mail". OR "I decided to give it to my little brother and he spent it".

A quick update. I didn't realize Registered Mail can take so long. The package took a full week to get from the Midwest to Newport Beach CA where it arrived this morning. The USPS site still does not show it as delivered yet, and no record on the PCGS site yet.

Cyclone99: That's typical for Registered Mail. By next Friday we'll know the grade!
My prediction: PCGS Genuine. And that will be good news! You should be able to get it in a problem free holder, but it might not happen the first try!

It takes a while. I know it's hard to have patience especially on the potential caliber of this coin. I just submitted a couple Colonials and a DB Half Cent. It takes time with PCGS and I am only 25 miles away! Best wishes on this coin

I just realized I didn't try guessing the grade. I have no experience grading Merc dimes, but here goes... The picture of the obverse appears to show some fading on the feather and hair, I can't tell if it's a lighting issue. I'm guessing the obverse grades AU53-55.
The reverse looks crisp... I'm going to go with my gut and say MS 62-63, for a combined average grade of AU58.

Whatever grade it is, and I am hoping for the best, that's one great looking coin.

It looks mint state to me. And I note that it has a full split on the upper and lower bands. The center band is not quite fully split, but altogether this is a really nice looking coin!

This is the only thread I've subscribed too. Every time I get an e-mail that there's been a comment I jump a little. Can't wait for the results.
