Hello! I recently received a bunch of coins (Thank you, Debrajc!) and these were some of them. I was wondering if you guys thought that these are low enough in grade to throw in silver pile or if I should keep them? Thanks, and sorry for the bad pictures!

Not sure I understand, but I read the question as should I throw these in a 2x2 and assign a grade to them or put them in a tube of junk silver dimes. I buy junk silver dimes, you don't see many Seated dimes in the junk bin. I have all my Seated coins packaged in one way or another, no tubes of Seated coins laying around. I do have tubes of Mercury and Barber dimes though. Those I would put in my tubes. I 2x2 my best of each date and mintmark for all silver coins and then if I upgrade I don't take the older coin out of the 2x2 it just goes in as an extra for future trade or sale.

For me, the answer is not quite as simple. I ask, "Do I already have one of these?". If the answer is "No", then I keep it, no matter how "junky" it may be, until and unless I acquire a better one.
I own coins that are both cleaned and have holes drilled in them - all because I've never gotten around to acquiring an upgrade.

I sell coins like this and get them in lots. the Seated coins can get a premium, even in those conditions, about a few bucks. You never get them when buying junk silver. Common AG or lower Barber dimes go in junk along with damaged or low grade Mercury dimes in the 40s. The 1926 could get a small premium more likely if there is a mint mark.

I have a few Half Dimes, dimes and silver Three Cents coins, all with holes in them, all dated before 1900, rescued from jewelry, all F or VF condition. Because of the holes, they are not worth any more than their silver value. They will never go into my junk silver collection !Also have about a dozen English / British Maundy coins, from Charles 11 to George 11, rescued from jewelry, that are enjoying the same acceptance. If a silver coin has a numismatic premium value of more than about 20% above the silver value, it has a legitimate place in my collection. However ANY silver coin that happens to be interesting irrespective of having silver value only, can be found in my collection.

Good answer! The Seated dimes will go back into the 2x2s and i'll look closer at the other ones.

My views - none of those coins will appeal to true lowball collector ... but all should appeal to any collector who is interested in the set and if they fill a current hole.

The Seated dimes are not junk silver at all. The 1926 prob carries a smaller premium or could be junk that will sell super fast. The 1942 is definitly junk silver.

Quote:I buy junk silver dimes, you don't see many Seated dimes in the junk bin. I agree. My LCS always has merc's and rosie's in the junk bin of silver dimes. Sometimes you'll get lucky and pull out some Barber dimes in G+ with no problems. Once I pulled a VG-7 1896 out. Very rarely do you ever see Seated dimes in junk bins. I think it's only happened once, and the one that I found was a rough 1888 with Fine Details.

I would put those coins in my junk silver box, unless there was a better date or mm. then it would go into a 2x2 and put into my loose leaf book.
