Congrats! That's the coin collecting version of winning the lottery. We all dream of something like that happening!

Now that we know it is legit, maybe the images could be put into the US Coin Image Gallery section of the website. As the 1916-D is one of the most heavily counterfeited coins out there, having high quality images of an authentic coin in such nice condition would be a valuable teaching tool and reference.

Cyclone - is a coin worth 5 figures something you will hold on to or something you may try to sell. It would be interesting to hear what others would do in this situation as well.

1916 D 1,050 1,560 2,610 4,170 6,150 8,670 9,130 10,440 11,440 13,130
That's Numismedia's price line for the 1916D - like you didn't already know. The $10,440 is the AU-55.

Congratulations! What a boost that would be for any of us.

The last Heritage sale of a PCGS AU55 example was in August 2008. That coin went for $11,500.

Cyclone99, we see folks like yourself very often here, posting coins they're unsure of and hoping for the best. 9 out of 10 cases result in disappointment for the poster. I suspect you're not one of them.

AU55 with Full Split Bands?

It doesn't have Full Split Bands. Here is what it says about the coin

Full Split Bands only applies to uncirculated examples. If they were FSB before, any amount of wear will inevitably but a break in the bandlines. At least I'm 90% sure that's how it works.
