It was advertised as almost uncirculated, however, I think it looks mint state. Was $28 too much for this cent? Let me know what you think :)

Nice coin!! I'd go with a nice MS-63. (I'm guessing the tops of the feathers on obverse are present and contain all the original detail and the left side wreath on the reverse (where it blurs a little in your picture) also contains original detail.)

The 2010 Red Book lists this type and year as:

MS-60 =$40
MS-63= $65

with Wormslick.

You did good!

The leaves around the bow look crisp, I doubt it saw circulaton. As long as the feather tips are crisp and/or the bands on the headress you did very well. MS63 Red.

That's a beauty, you did good on the price. I would also grade it at MS-63, the reverse even has some wood graining. Congrats on a nice buy.

great price for that coin.
What's more, you might have a repunched date--I think I see something in the second 9.
A closeup of the date would help us identify which variety.

CDN ask is $41. For $28, you did very good. I also grade MS63RD.

MS-63? I'll post pics when it arrives (sometime next week), I'll really dance around the room if it has a repunched date. Thank you for your opinions!

Yep, agreed with the above comments. The nicks on the face will probably keep it from getting any higher than MS63, but overall it's a great strike and what looks like very nice color. Well done.

The cent arrived today :)

It looks like there is some wear on top of the first three feathers, so I guess that bumps the grade down to AU as the seller had stated. Take note of the second 9 in the date, the loop seems thicker than the first nine.

I couldn't get a good photo of the obverse. The center of the cent was darkening a little bit, and the details looked good.

A closeup of the date from two angles, I think I see doubling in the second nine and the eight. Also, you can see the second nine is thicker than the first:

Is this a re-punched date? Even if it is AU, I'm happy with the coin.. You can barely see the worn feathers through the naked eye.

I'm pretty sure the doubling on the top half of the lower loop in the 8 is a RPD
There is more going on here, especially inside the lower loop of the second 9 where you see that raised line of metal. I don't have the attribution guide for this year- this coin should be easy to spot- anybody? The date shows evidence of a later die stage- by the "ballooning" effect in the digits.

Hmm.. I was looking at the image I posted from a distance, and noticed what looked like the shadow of a "9" beside the second nine:

I tried zooming into this area as best as I could, the usb microscope I have isn't the best. I thought I was seeing things, though when you look at the black spec in the middle, you can see it is on an angle, proving the area of the photo is not a flat surface.

I'll try and take better pictures later, though I don't think I can take any better.
