And for that reason alone I would keep the coin and the set to pass along to the next generation ...... regardless of the $$$ some may offer.
Share the great story of Mom at $1.80/hour ..... I don't see IMHO how that can be replaced by selling this coin for $75 or so.
Enjoy the coin and the story ..... that's my view.
David First and foremost, I'd never even think of selling the coin. But...after telling my mother about the discovery of the DDR in the set, I have decided to send it to PCGS for grading. I was hesitant to do so at first, but when I heard my mother say "that's what dad would have done if he would have found it."... Well... I'm planning on sending it off tomorrow... Thanks for all the replies, Scott

Great story. Awsome coin. Your mom is an awsome lady. I can only hope my collection brings stories like this to my kids one day. Best of luck.

Well, it's finally back... Wish they would have given me a FS grade too. All kidding aside, I'm very pleased with the results!

Well, the story is worth a million bucks, and now the coin is probably worth at the very least a few hundred!

Scotty, I am also happy for your find, you must be a special person, your Mom sounds like an angel, I am sure your feeling good about all of this, Be Well, Mike... PS, Was this some sort of War Nickel after market mounted set?

As far as I know Mike, yes, it is an aftermarket set. I've still got the plastic holder that the coins were in, but I've removed them all and placed them into 2X2's for the time being. Long story short...Dad kept his coin collection inside a briefcase underneath his bed...then came the "Great Flood Disaster of 2008". That's when the master bathroom shower decided to spring a leak inside the wall...and flood 1/2 of the master bedroom floor. The briefcase was then moved to a shelf inside said bedroom while the flooring was allowed to dry. Moisture and coins do not get along together...which is why I took them from the holder and placed them in 2x2's after he passed on last year. The other 10 coins in the set were given a quick acetone bath. I just haven't put them back inside the holder yet. I'd honestly love to send the rest of them in for grading. 4 or 5 of them look to be in even better condition than the 45-P in my opinion. But...even with a MS65 grade, it's not cost-effective for me to do so. My long-term goal is to have them ALL slabbed...and then mounted inside some sort of picture frame...along with the original case that they came in.
