Hey guys, don't know when the last time anyone was on this topic but worth a shot! I've been saving up coppers and silver coins for a while now and have a look through them and find a 5 pence I've never seen before. It's a St Helena Ascension coin with a picture of a tortoise and 'Jonathon the Giant Tortoise' inscribed on it. Was wondering if anyone else had seen it before? I looked it up and couldnt find much apart from its a limited edition of 10000 coins. Not Allowed - Auto-Removed /countries/img15/167-22.jpg)

Wow, if it is just a limited coin it might be worth somethng, I've never seen one and worked with money quite a few times in the last 10 years or so.

Hi Debbie, welcome to the forum. St Helena coins are almost all limited edition strikes. They're mostly struck for collectors and such. Like almost all modern coins, they hold little premium over face value, but, hey it's still a nice lovely find. Have fun at forum.

I got a Guernsey 5p early this afternoon, I was getting rid of a crumpled worn five pound note and was pleasantly surprised by the pretty little 5p coin in my hand .....

Every time I visit the UK I find ISle of Man and Gibraltar 1 Pound coins, even up in Scotland. There must be a lot of them wandering out in the wild in the mainland UK.:)

Yeah it certainly looks that way , I have come across a few IOM coins as well over the past year The nice thing about Gibraltar pound coins is that there is quite a few nice designs so they are very interesting ...

It must be nice to have all these coins from various colonies. In America, I think the only countries that are pegged to the dollar and issue coins of the same specifications are Panama and Ecuador, and no countries use the Canadian dollar but Canada (although there have been failed plans in the past).
However, one of my friends did find an Ecuadorian nickel once. Made my day :D

Although not technically from circulation , I picked up an Australian 5 cent coin on the road , it had been driven over and looked pretty beat up

I was quite pleased to find a nice shiny one of these the other day: A Polish 10 Groszy coin. A bit smaller than 5p, but must have slipped into someone's change somehow. (Not my photo. I'm too lazy to get the camera out, sorry!)

Interesting finds Tom and Moly , That 10 grozy is really small ! Ironically a month or so ago I came across a shiny new 2013 10 groszy and a 1 groszy that someone had dropped , when I first saw them I thought they were shirt buttons

I sort of enjoy Polish 10 and 20 Grozy coins. They have next to no purchasing power in Poland but they're elegant and remind me of small UK 3p coins. They're lovely at all. Needless to say I keep finding forged 1 Pound coins anywhere in the UK, even up in Scotland too, when I travel to there.
