I dug up a pound (1990) at Elk Island National Park in Alberta, Canada a couple months back.
I'm still wondering how it got there... (even though it was in loose playground sand, moisture turned it black)

interesting stuff , its amazing were these coins end up turning up at times ..... Maybe the person who buried it wanted to one day come back and dig up his/her buried treasure

I was pleased with it as I've just started to keep Jersey coins.
A friend at work showed me a Gibralter pound coin he'd found in his change-think it was a 1998, though I didn't ask him for it.....

Its always nice to find a different coin or two in circulation in the UK. I remember finding a 2p from Gibraltar and another 2p from Isle of Man at the Brighton Pier. There were (maybe there still is!) machines that you throw 2p coins in, trying to drop more 2p coins. I kinda loved those back then. :) I found both the IOM 2p and the Gibraltar 2p there. I also, very recently as North as Inverness, found two 1 Pounds, again IOM and Gibraltar, from 2002 and 2003. I used to find those in London too, just did not save them back then. I found a 1997 IOM 50p coin with a motorcyclist on back, sometime ago in London. OOh and I found a 2 eurocent given to me as a penny from the cashier at the Marble Arch Sainsbury's in London. I found a Swiss 1 Franc coin lying on the pavement in Embankment. Not interestingly, I found a pound coin on a zebra crossing in Cardiff sometime ago.:) I also found a 20 Pounds note in Cardiff, lying on the grounds next to the Castle. Lucky me. An average circulated Victoria halfcrown was about 5 Pounds in a coin shop back then.:)

I'm just glad that Charles Dickens has finally arrived in Dorset. I got my first Dickens £2 from circulation today, and believe me it has seen some circulation. Living in a Port town you expect to see a lot of strange coins in your change. In fact the opposite is true. If a shopper has a foreign accent, it's not uncommon to see the shop keeper check every coin. Usually twice.

My friend brought back a commemorative 2-pound coin from the UK by luck... I forget which one it is, though.
How common are they to find in circulation?
Canadian commemorative loonies and quarters are pretty easy to find, although there are some harder ones... I guess they will remain in circulation to commemorate their events for a long time!
