Just a quick question. How rare is the "near bead variety" ? I have found 19 so far in roll searching & pocket change.(I have 1 & 1/2 rolls of the "far bead variety" also.) Thank you very much.

I don't think either one is very rare, I have been finding a lot of both. John1

Here's a nice 1983 far beads to look for: I don't have a clue how these marks got there (it has to be on the die), but I'm aware of 2 coins like that reported so far.

on the image shown, is that a clash, by any chance? The "stuff" under the leaf, is the reason for my question. Thanks, Dick

Almost 1 year later... I'm 99,99% confident these aren't clash marks, livingdinasaur. The marks look so sharp, they can't be die chips either. Still wondering what caused this, and if anyone found another one. There are still only 2 known by now.

Ok. So I have been going through a stash of nice shiny CDN pennies from the 80s. After sorting them, I have 15 1983 near beads. If I sell them on ebay, what sort of price would they fetch. With so many popping up, is the value inflated?

Have you checked ebay sold prices? I don't think either one is uncommon and any value on the near bead will be small,IMHO. John1

They seem to sell on ebay from $0.99 to $10,with most going at $2-$3.Sell them one at a time,it seems the fewer listed the more likely you'll get a higher price.

List them individually and at different times. It is not actually a hard coin to find in circulation. Well...at least it was not hard to find prior to the removal of the cent from circulation. As the amount of cents that are in circulation dwindles away...The price should increase. List one...see what price the realizes. You may score. If you think it should or could bring more. Hold on to the rest and watch the bay. Se what happens to the sell prices.

Great! Thanks for the tips. I find myself more entertained by the hunt than the actual find itself. I have a list of coins I am working my way through. *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***
