Any collector who enjoys world die varieties should look into the Peru ½ Dinero series. Just between 1900-19, there are ~ 40 overdates listed in Krause. Most are common, but all are interesting subjects of study. Here is the 1909/7  Detail of the 9/7:  There are a few other cool things on this coin. Thanks for the post showing a great coin. Is the entire series minted at the Lima mint? I think world coin varieties and errors are a great opportunity for collectors and highly overlooked by most. I purchased a mule for $30 from my local coin shop. Try buying a US coin with this error for that price. I definitely would like to see more examples posted here.

Terrell, Yes--I think the ½ Dinero series was minted in Lima until its end in 1917. Agreed--most US varieties are big money, which can take the fun out of variety collecting, imo. I found a group of these ½ Dinero series for a few dollars each, in nearly UNC grade with a lot of interesting details to study.  Here's another overdate: 1901/1891  |

DV, I love the coin, I collect Peru and Gautamaula coins. Love the overdates and counterstrikes. Though its not worth much here is one of my favorites. Sorry for the dark images. Chris   |

Very nice pictures indeed. I have been collecting the Peruvian 1/2 Dinero's for some time now, always looking for a better coin or a missing one. This happens to be one that I'm missing. If you have any extras you want to offload let's talk. Thanks. Errol

Hi there my name is Errol. I have been collecting on a professional level the Peruvian 1/2 Dinero's. I now own albeit a worn example of the 1885 1/2 Dinero. I am missing a few dates and am always looking to better the one I presently have. You can say that I'm on a mission to complete the whole set. Oddly I'm missing the two 1909 coins. If you know of anyone trying to offload 1/2 Dinero's please point them my way. I'm writing a book on the 1/2 Dinero's and their varieties. The book will be written in English and in Spanish. I have found more varieties than what is listed in Krause. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Errol

Sorry I missed your first post. The 1885 1/2 Dinero is scarce, isn't it?
I like these 1/2 Dineros. I have just a few, mostly overdates, and no duplicates.
A question about the 1909/7--Krause lists it as $70 in MS60. Do you consider that low or high?
It would be fun to look at your book--thanks!
