I picked up 19 Ike's last week at the bank. Oldest is '71, the newest is a 78. 4 are 76's with 1776- 1976. Are any of these worth anything over face. All are circulated. Thanks in advance for the help.

Randy, they made so many IKE's and no one ever used them so circulated IKE's are not worth anything above face. A lot of the IKE's were used in slot machines and are pretty beat up.

But its really fun spending them. You never know what kind of reaction you will get. Usually it is somewhere between disbelief that it is actually worth $1, to flipping out and buying out of the till, thinking its worth a bunch.

They made more 1881-S Morgans than 1977 Ikes. Most of the Morgans still exist in unc condition but the Ikes are mostly degraded. Attrition on the Ikes isn't a lot lower either. Compare the populations of gem '81-S morgans to gem '77 Ikes if you want a real start.

I agree though that most Ikes aren't worth saving. If they aren't gems or varieties there isn't enough demand to give them much premium. But be careful with uncs; some of these do have premiums.

There are some NIFC that find their way into circulation. I've found a 1973 and a couple silver. The 1972 type 2 is hard to come by and the 1976 type 1 is worth more than the type 2.

Randy,

It might be a good idea to check the Ike's for varieties before thinking they are just junk and spend them. There have been more discoveries of new Eisenhower Varieties in the past couple of years than any other coin series that I know of. Some of them are one die set varieties. which puts them in the area of only 10,000 total mintage.
One in particular one is a 1971 Proto-type of which until the past month there was only one known example Discovered by Lee (19Lyds)
there is now two.
Here is the place to start http://www.ikegroup.org/
They are a Great bunch of guys with an incredible amount of knowledge
of the Eisenhower dollar series.
"Then again Not Everyone Likes Ike" which has been a real advantage in me finding the numerous varieties and high grade Ikes I have found in the past two years.
