Question regarding the clear as mud small vs. large date. I have several of these and one in particular caught my eye last night. The numbers all line up, but the Liberty is not weak. Does it necessarily have to? I am going to try to get a pic of it and then maybe it will be easier to evaluate.

From what I understand the light liberty is just a marker and is not on all 70s small date.I have one and the liberty is not noticable light but the 7 is certainly higher than the 0.

We ought to be able to tell you exactly what you got once we're able to see a good scan or picture of the date and mint mark. In the meantime, we've been over this ground, before, recently, and there are multiple threads on the 1970-S diagnostics in the Modern US Variety & Error Coins forum, in just the past several weeks or so, you might want to look into.

I think this guide is really good in showing the difference. The shape of the 9 is also a key. http://www.thecentproject.com/sort1970.php

About 2% of mint set small dates don't have the weak liberty.

It is weaker than the average large date but the letters are well defined and struck up. I don't have much experience with the other small dates so can't speak to them except to say at least the vast majority have weak lettering.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
