1916 versus 1917 pics:

Nod2003: Yours does indeed look like a 1916. VERY nice!

Congratulations my friend! Great score!

Very anxious to see how ANACS grades it, you'll have to update us when it returns.

I want to show the first thing I look for when trying to tell between the two dates. And I concur I am 99.9% sure this is a 1916

Are you referring to the 17 touching the ground and the 16 not, or just the size difference?

The questionable one is definitely a 1916 nod. I've cherrypicked 2 of these in my years collecting, the second one very recently. Send it off to ANACS, NGC or PCGS. I'm going to say at least Fair-02 on it, maybe even AG-3. Nice Find!!

Just got back from the coin store. The head guy there said that he would bet me $1 against his paycheck that it would not come back in a 1916 slab, but he also said that there was no way to differentiate a dateless 1917 and 1916, so I told him I would take that bet. :)
