I have search 400 rolls of nickels. The '09 nickels and dimes are in Puerto Rico. As for the '09 LP4, I have found 2 of them.

I agree that the nickels and dimes are hard to find. I see lots of the 09 quarters, and alot of the first 3 varieties of pennies. I've only found 1 LP4 - in change from Starbucks.

Halves, as mentioned, should be VERY scarce, as they aren't supposed to be in circulation.

As I find them, I will roll them and hoard them. Same for the 2010's as I believe the very low mintages will pay off for collectors down the road. Just my .02 (zinc .02 also).

2009 Lincoln Cent Mintage
The 2009 Lincoln Cents had some surprising low mintage figures compared to prior years. The low mintages are a result of the economy, which has driven old coins back into circulation, diminishing the need to produce new coins. Additionally, because the 2009 Lincoln Cent will have four different designs, the mintage must be divided across four different coins.

The low number of coins minted have also experienced limited distribution since the Federal Reserve is working through a glut of old coinage before new coins are released.

The low mintage, limited distribution, and high demand for the 2009 Lincoln Pennies have combined to create premiums for the coins on the secondary market. Whether or not these prices eventually come down, when the dust settles, the 2009 Lincoln Pennies will have the lowest mintages for their denomination in decades.

The final mintage for the 2009 "Birthplace", "Formative Years", "Professional Life", and "Presidency" Lincoln Cents have all been provided by the United States Mint. The lowest mintages were achieved for the fourth design with 129.6 million produced in Philadelphia and 198 million produced in Denver.

2009 Lincoln Cent Mintages

Philadelphia Denver Total
Birthplace Lincoln Penny 284,400,000 350,400,000 = 634,800,000
Formative Years Lincoln Penny 376,000,000 363,600,000 = 739,600,000
Professional Life Lincoln Penny 316,000,000 336,000,000 = 652,000,000
Presidency Lincoln Penny 129,600,000 198,000,000 = 327,600,000
Just thought I'd share since everyone seems to be having a harder time finding the LP4's. Seems like the mintages are half of what the rest were.

The last time total year mintage figures for the penny were as low as 2009 was 1966! (2,188,147,783)And that year no D or S mints were issued!

The last time a single design mintage was less then the 2009 P-mint LP4 was the 1955 S-mint penny. (44,610,000)

All four 2009 penny designs are relatively abundant here in NYC. Not as common as 2008, but about where you would expect them to be considering the mintage numbers. I don't even bother saving them anymore. I even got one 2010 already.

Nickels and dimes I have not seen. I work at a Starbucks and get to play with all the change (yippee!) but haven't seen any yet. Like stated above, these have not be released in great numbers but will eventually work there way around.

Quarters are everywhere around here. No rarity if you ask me.

Any chance the mint will hold of on producing 2010 nickels/dimes? There seems to be no need for them right now so maybe they'll just skip the year? Thoughts?

They won't skip it, but will produce less, and release them into the wild later.
