I was helping my mother-in-law move and she knows I collect coins so she said " oh I found something for you" and handed me this VERY TINY coin. It looks like a St. Gaudens but then again it doesn't. What can you tell me about this coin?   Edited by coretj

I don't have any test acid or anything, My coin scale needs batteries, but I'm sure it is, at least, some kind of metal

yeah well the Double eagle is 34mm diameter right? this thing is more in the neighborhood of 8 or 9mm
you are bound to lose detail dropping to near 25% of original size

It's a gold miniature; I believe the usual fineness for these is 8k. Do a forum search and you'll find several more examples, like the one in this thread that's been taped onto a souvenir card.
