This is exactly why I posted this now.. to see if this is an mint error or post mint mechanical manipulation.

coinsrfun.. what is your take on this coin..

If not authentic it will be going back to seller...

This must be a home made job. Here is why I say that. Any legit "in collar" double strike will NOT show any damage to the rims. The flat spot on the rims (both sides) tells me it was squished.... The date on the Caribou's neck appears inset to the neck...which means it came second...crushing the rim....no way it was done at the mint.

Yes I bought it.. It was described as:

"Up for auction is a scarcer date 1970 Canadian Quarter with a double date/double strike error... On the Reverse and obverse side, there is a region of the coin where it is "double struck".

On the reverse side, the strike is at 4:00 and you can easily see the "1970" punched/struck twice. In person, the lettering is even more clear and visible."

I was not a 100% sure if this is an error but decided to gamble as there is a return policy.. If this is authentic than it was a great buy... IF NOT IT WILL BE RETURNED..

I have not received the coin yet and that's why this forum is great for input and solid advise...

.. M will be right..and that's a good thing..

I am not familiar with this coin at all and not really familiar with Canadian coins but what struck me was the portrait of Queen Elizabeth. Surely that's not what she looks like on a legit 1970 Proof Quarter!?!

d23...
maybe you missed a good deal..
maybe it is a one of a kind ( or a few others still to be discovered..) ... maybe there is always some reasonable explanation of HOW such a "error" came about. thought about it and there are errors out there which have just NO explanation. they simply are!! Just because someone says: Not possible, does not always mean that. sometimes it might mean a"hidden" oh wow... why did I not buy it?/!!
