I started collecting India after a visit to Pune in 2002 where I got a fair number of Mughal, sultanate and native state coins. As I write, I have a bag with approx. 200 of these coins that I am working on identifying. Lots of fun and educational - we don't study Indian history in the USA very much.

I'm currently date-collecting the low denominations British India issues...surprisingly hard to find a lot of the common dates in decent mint state.

I collect Indian coins - machine-struck Princely States (mostly Baroda, Bikanir, Gwalior, Kutch, Mewar and Indore), post-1835 EIC and British issues, and post-Independence up to about 1980. I also collect some earlier dump and hammered coinage from various earlier dynasties.
