not sure about oxidization,
think a quick way of grading is how many jewels are seen on the crown,,6 is below au and eight is above

jewels of the crown are all the fancy shiny things the royals like to put on their hats! As crf says, not a great way to grade these things what with weak strikes etc...
Your coin is in really nice shape. I wouldn't dream of guessing a grade from the scan. I think the splotch at 12 o'clock and the mold at 4 o'clock are not a big deal.
A really great coin. Probably a crude question but what was the price?

Nice coin! I'll go EF-45. Great crown band! It's likely a dull but pleasing grey in appearance. Tough series to grade. As one poster said - don't get locked into a jewel count on this group. I've seen lots of certified MS-60 to MS-62 nickels in this series with only six pearls but plenty of lustre. If a coin has a strong strike and all eight pearls are sharp it'll demand a premium.

The coin Sir H has shown is likely an AU to Unc example. Here is one from my collection. Take a guess at grade.

I tend to agree with crf AU+.

Don't know for sure about yours crf, but I graded mine EF+ based on other graded George V nickels I have in my collection. Your picture shows similar wear overall, maybe more but it's hard to tell. Charlton talks about the "halo effect" is found in the fields around the design at AU-50. Mine has that effect but has a few too many scratches and dings I think to qualify for AU...

CrF, I think yours would grade AU50. pushing... , but they are hard to grade, at least for me and I might be totally off here...
Many have meter scratches and rim dings ec.... this seems to have nearly none.
price was USD 85 for a nearly complete book, but interestingly, NO 1926 in it.., at least that is what the auctioneer said. they very kindly sent me the pix of this nickel (not a scan, taken with an auctioneer's camera) and I am sure once I get it , I can post better pix, which I will.
I am looking fwd receiving this coin within the next 2 weeks.

The cardinal sin has just been made....you can not judge grade of this series by a picture......you can not see lustre......the coin I posted is in an ICCS MS 62 drips with luster.......

well, that positively proofs that grading by pictures is ok, but should ONLY be an approximate, maybe it is so or not, guide...
wow CrF, a 62? graded by the nerds in T.... they must been in a good mood..
However, good for you.... we shall see how this one plays out once I receive it... will post macro pix then...

MS-62!? Wow. Maybe I should send mine to ICCS also. But then again, I wouldn't be able to sell it on ebay as a "certified" coin.
