I've found various toonies in my collection that have off-centre middles. The metal will "bleed" into the spot where it shouldn't be. I guess it might be a misaligned die? I couldn't find anything on it in my Charlton. It's quite common, however, some are more severe than others. A few questions, though. How far off-centre must a toonie be in order to have any numismatic desire? I've also found a 1999 Nunavut toonie with a field of empty space that shouldn't be raised, but it is. It's near the foot on the left, on the bronze area near the boot. An emptied/hollowed-out die? I've seen some gross errors on toonies from coin shows. So where could I find some info on different varieties? (Sorry for the crappy cropping on the pic.) Edited by Libertad 03/23/2010 1:57 pm

Oh ok thank you. I couldn't find anything about my specific coin, but now I'm armed with some more knowledge, thank you. I'll keep looking though, as it seems that site has been abandoned for 8 years.

Quote: it seems that site has been abandoned for 8 years. I don't think it's been abandoned at all, near the bottom left hand corner it shows: "Changes last made on: 02/14/10". If you go to TWO DOLLAR PLANCHET VARIETIES page there's what looks like another example of your pictured coin there. I'm not 100% certain, but I think it's the same. Another interesting site is: https://www.jandm.com/script/getite...CID=3&PID=81

It's true, that site has had recent changes. Check out all the links on it, there are some great articles. Really liked the Arnprior Dollar write-up.

Yes, I went through the planchet varieties. I had a strong feeling that the 2000 Knowledge toonie (not 2001 as in the website) had common errors, but they are so slight that they pass un-noticably unless you stop to look at it under some good light. I tend to keep the planchet varieties where there is noticeable nickel where there should be bronze, so as if shown to an outsider they would agree and see it when pointed out. There are degrees for sure. I've seen literal BLOBS for toonies, and also the mythical "duploonie"...that famous Kitchener coin that popped out in 1996.
And different pages have different update dates, so I was going by the last page I'd visted.
