Dear Property Owner,
Are you interested in the history of your land? Finding out what lies beneath our feet can tell us more about the rich tapestry of its past and in turn will add to the heritage of the area. My name is_____________ . I live in ___________. I am interested in the history of our region. I look for coins/objects and artifacts using a state of the art metal detector. I am writing to ask you for permission to access your land for this purpose.
I have taken up the hobby of Metal Detecting, and I am a member of a great, worldwide forums group at
http://metaldetectingforum.com/index.php and follow a strict code of ethics.
You can rest assured that I will always respect your property and leave it in the same condition as it was found. I know how busy you must be so rather than knock on your door unannounced I prefer to make this first contact with you by letter.
I would be grateful if you could grant me permission and would appreciate the opportunity of a meeting or a telephone conversation during which I can answer any questions you may have.
I have enclosed a stamped addressed envelope and a slip for you to return noting your wishes, but please do not hesitate in phoning the number at the bottom of this page, or emailing me at: (__________________) if it is more convenient, and we can arrange a time to meet.
If you are interested, I would be more than happy for you to accompany me on my first outing on your land. That way, you can observe my hobby in hopes that you gain insight into what makes our hobby so fascinating and rewarding.
My full details can be found at the foot of this page.
I thank you in anticipation for your consideration of this request and I look forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
