The Term "rich Snobs" can refer to anybdy, but the term "rich" is never ending, a person with a million dollars could be considered rich but he would be considered poor compared to someone like Bill Gates.
But "snob can refer to anyone, a "snob" is someone who is selfish and that I don't think, refers to anyone in the forum but when BB stated why people by these overpriced, is not because they want to show off money, I could buy a 09 svdb and stuff it in your face, that would be snobbish.
They buy it because, they need it to complete a set or gift it to someone, not to show off in greed.
You probably set that out was wrong, BB.

There are many "rich" people on this forum, who are very very nice!

At least as far as older coins are concerned, there's a lot of people that live in rural areas with no coin shops and no nearby shows, mail order is easy. Littleton certainly is the most well known mail order coin company and many folks have been buying from them for years so there's a lot of trust factor, too.
I believe they have a buy-back program, so that's one reason they can charge more. Also, if Littleton says they're going to send you a 1922 Peace dollar in XF...that's what you get. NO rimdings, NO scratches, NO cleaned coins, NO problem pieces...they send nice original coins. That's a positive side that you just can't say about any other large mail order company. Honestly that's got to be worth something, knowing you're paying more but will never get counterfeits or problems. Have you ever sold to them? Wow are they picky lol.

Yes they have a big following, and you have to hand it to them, they've been doing it right for a long time. But their prices are sure out of whack with the rest of the coin market. I think their customers aren't typical coin collectors, for sure.

The only problem I had with Littleton's was that the first few coins they sent to me for "preview" were sent with a postage paid mailer to return them. (I even bought one of the coins.) However, they started coming and I had to pay the return postage. At that point, I cancelled with them.

I've purchased two of Littleton's specials:

- 7 Unc Sacs for $9.95 (one per year) plus a folder for $1.95 -- free s&h
- 10 Unc Westword Journey nickels (complete P&D set 2004-2006) for $2.95 -- free s&h

A couple of notes:
- It's true that they start to sell you coins on approval, but I cancelled that immediately.
- The coins all came in plastic bags marked MS60. As far as I can tell, this is a vary accurate grade -- the Sacs maybe had one Gem BU coin among them. As you would expect, the nickels were nicer.
- Looking at the catalogue for most of their stuff, it makes the Red Book look like a discount catalogue.

Another reason some don't purchase from the mint is I think yhey require a credit card. Not positive. Anyway I used to sell proof sets on e-bay to a woman in Alabama who went thru a messy divorce and lost her credit. I became friendly with her thru e-mails and sold direct to her and had the mint send the stuff direct to her. Made her so happy to be the first one to see it.
