Just found this ten minutes ago. How easy are these to find in circulation? Value? This is the first one I have ever found. Thanks for your input. John1

Very nice find! I checked for about 300$ of cent this months and didin't find a single one. I dont think those are very commun. as for the price a ICCS MS-65 one goes for around 200$ In my opinion I would say this one is worth 2-5$. but they are still very nice and interesting even in lower grades!

Nice find. You see them go on ebay for $5 in decent circulated condition. Maybe $30-60 in MS

Thanks guys for the info. It's in pretty good condition and even though it's only worth $2-5 I'm going to keep it. John1

What causes such a harp (or guitar as I've seen it described elsewhere) coin?

Hey splatto. As far as I know it is die polish lines that causes the "harp" appearance. ALTHOUGH, one thing to clarify. There are two different varieties. One is a harp, and the other is a guitar. The guitar version has complete lines, as opposed to these semicomplete lines. Both are very interesting coins.

I recently seen an example on a BU coin with the guitar effect. It did not look lie die polishing, but more like gouges. Wouldn't there be evidence of polishing elsewhere if that's what it is?

Of all the small cents I think this is one of the best varieties.

Great find.Congrats.A keeper for sure.Somehow coins found in change, rolls, etc.seem to have much more sentimental value than those bought online or at a dealer,I can't bring myself to part with any I have found, yet have no problem reselling coins I have bought.

I have one, given by a friend. I have looked at the "harp, and Guitar", both under very high magnification, and I don't believe it is "Polishing" marks. The lines are too precise to be from a hand=-held rotary grinder. I heard recently, that there is another kind, a "Violin". these marks are in a different area, and could be poilshing marks, that were not removed. IMHO Dick

The violon is on the 1-cent 1964 coin. Harp sold on ebay in august (certified by CCCS) : MS-62 : 49 $ MS-63 : 18.66 $ (average of three coins sold) MS-64 : 145.00 $ Guitar : MS-64 : 70 $ According to me, the guitar variety is rarer. Don't know how this error was made, but it's not the same kind than the violon one.
