Hey,

I've had great difficulty in finding a 1927 GB florin.

What I want to know is, how many were minted? I know 15000 were minted as proof, but what others?

I have a Whitman folder that I need to complete, 1927 being the only date I have yet to collect. However, none of my local coin dealers have this coin or know of any whereabouts of it.

Any information on this coin would be appreciated.

Thank you.

In 1927 the design was changed ("modified effigy"). That year only proof florins were issued. 15,000 were struck with sandblasted dies, and 116,497 more were issued as a part of proof sets.

Hey, thanks for replying :)

So do you know where I can buy or find any of these proof sets which have the 1927 florin within it?

Thanks.

Done a wee bit of searching on the net, the only one I can see is at http://www.argentumandcoins.co.uk/1...d-2096-p.asp although this rarity doesn't come cheap.

My (Coincraft) catalog gives the value for F, VF, and EF conditions of the 1927 (proof) florin. There must be enough of them popped out of the sets!

The actual mintage of 1927 Florins is 15000 to 15030.
They were only ever issued in the proof sets (as were the Crown and threepence). There were a handful of matt proofs for the date (commonly referred to as VIP proofs).

The 116497 quoted by svslav is a slightly misleading figure given in ESC by Rayner. That figure refers to the number of Florins issued by The Royal Mint. In the UK it is not unusual for the mint to issue coins with the previous years date on them and this is what happened in 1927, thus the small amount of 1927 florins on the market and the high prices.
