The mint's website now has the 2009 annual report in pdf for download.

The main highlight is the mintage split between 2009-produced zinc and steel cents: 36.6 million versus 419.1 million. Since no 2008-dated cents were produced, we can conclude that there are at least 36.6 million zinc 2009-dated cents in circulation.

I have found ONE out of a few hundred rolls. (Must be a distribution issue here...)

No 2008? That's a mistake for sure.

I should have said "no 2008-dated cents were produced in 2009".

I've searched about 30 rolls of Canadian cents; I've found one zinc 2009.

I've got 26 rolls coming with a visitor tomorrow; I'm hoping to fill a few holes.

Should we be hoarding the zinc(2009)? Any I have found I put back into circulation. Right now I am going through a fresh box and have found 4 more,so far.Why is there so many in my area? I live in Ajax,Ontario

No, I probably wouldn't hoard the 2009 zinc. That was mainly my point, that the mintage is pretty high (>30 million). The only reason some of us are striking out is that the distribution (presumably) wasn't uniform across the country.

On the other hand, for comparison, the 2003 no P uncrowned cent has a reported mintage of 56,877,144 -- nearly double -- and I bet that a few people would pay 25 cents for one today! I have to admit: when I roll-search I'll pull any 2003 no P cents that look half decent.

So maybe I've talked myself into hoarding the 2009 zinc after all!

(Thing is, I've quit roll-searching. I stuck a nickel under a band-aid as my patch!)

Well we all know how accurate the Mint's numbers are. I'm still waiting to see those millions of Raised 2 Men's Hockey Quarters appear!

Just kidding, I'm sure their number is correct.
