Today I spent 2 hours going into a semi local dealers old coins. I pulled 4 out and as I do not collect errors that much I would love others to look at them.
I find all of them interesting and the guy has a box of just odd stuff. The 1st one I am posting is a very worn 1855 Dime. this thing has (Raised multiple lettering) not pressed in like a vise job. this thing looks like it has been struck 4 times and one of them it had been rotated.
There is a dot like that after AMERICA on the Shield nickel and on the Liberty V nickel. Would make sense given the placement on the rim too. Of course, they both appeared long after your dime...
The damage on the front of the coin (lower left quadrant) precisely corresponds to the mysterious 'doubling' on the reverse. A true double struck would be struck on both sides of the coin, and I don't believe yours is.
The only real problem I truly have is that all the lettering is raised it is not inclused as a press job would be. That is why I found it very neat. On the Obverse the lower left is also raised. I am sure of one thing....This coin had the poop beat out of it.
