For a brief history that has brought me to this coin, read here:

I learned a lot about this particular type of coin in the last... well, day! I decided to go to a coin shop and see if I could find another one. I think I did... confirmation from the experts would be great!

Try 14.2

Thanks zeewool, I think you're right. Reasonably sure it's not a 14.2 either. Ahhhhhh, wishful thinking on my part, lightning striking twice and all that. This VAM thing is serious business!! Awesome fun though, I don't think I realized how much detail these coins have.

Definitely a 14.2.

The key diagnostics are the small feather configuration between the eagle's left wing and leg ( VAM 9 is like a comma and 14.2 is straighter and longer). There is also a die gouge off the olive leaf (circled). Yours isn't very prominent, but it is there. And finally, note the ear fill. The 14.2 has a shortened ear fill (circled in second pic). In late die states, there is a prominent crack from the back of the bonnet down to the hair.

Very cool, thanks SeatedNut! What program do you use to draw circles and arrows on pictures?

Nothing special. Just open the file with "Paint". If you're running Windows you should have it. Don't know what's available for MACs. You can do lines, circles, ovals, and make your own arrows in various colors. Those took me about 10 seconds to highlight.

I just tried it, you're right, it took about 10 seconds to do. Thanks!
