Well ...... I've been a member here for about a year and have learned a lot from you gracious and sharing experts ....... Sooooo .... I'm hopeful that I finally have enough knowledge to tackle the pocket change jar! I have a 5-gallon container that gets used for my daily change ..... prior use was as the carboy for my home-brewed beers. Some of you know what a carboy is. Anyways ...... I've made daily additions to the jar starting in about 2000 until last year when my pocket change was scrutinized for anything 'good' and turned in with my nickel dumps. Soooo .... the 5-gallon jar is 75% full ..... I guess over $2000 in US coins ...... and I intend to dump them all out and go through the coins armed with the little bit of knowledge I have gained from you folks. I will not find any silver or true old coins ..... I've always screened my change even before I came to know you ...... but I have no doubt there are some treasures in there! Yahoo .... it will be fun indeed. My simple goal is a complete 50-coin type set of US State Quarters ..... I've never collected them and hope they are waiting for me in the jar. I dumped the top 10% of the jar tonight and my initial searches have turned up a lot of MS State Quarters ... plenty of pre-83 copper cents .... and also a 1979 circulation strike Susan B Anthony dollar ..... I can't see any signs of wear on the SBA but lots of bag (jar) marks. I'll post some updates as I work through the jar. I'm going to have some fun with this .... Thanks for all the knowledge that I have gained from you all! David

Thats how I built my State Quarter collection. I would take all my change I collected during the day and put it in a cup on the dryer when I got home. On Sunday I would go through it, put them in the 2X2's I had a great time doing it. I ended up having to buy about 12 of the quarters, due to frustration of not being able to find the last remaining ones, but it sounds like you got enough that they all should be there. Good Luck to ya!!

I know here it takes about 8 rolls to find all 54. I've done several with the grankids already. It's nickles now, I give them 10 rolls a day, and they've got most of the 40's, all 50's, '60, '70, 80's, 90's...etc. They would stay up all nite if they had the rolls. Change is another story, it's change.

I'm shutting down for the night ..... work calls at 0600 ... I've dumped the jar and am now maybe 20% through the search. Not as many State Quarters as hoped. Best find so far is a stunning full red 2005 Lincoln with full cartwheel luster. I'll put it in a 2x2 ...... David

David: With 80% to go I'm sure you still have a lot of State Quarters in there.

Home from work now ...... and back to the Change Jar project. Just for fun ...... here is a photo of where I left off last night. This is my basement workshop ..... the piles of fine timbers in the background are the raw materials for my "Other" life as professional wood box-maker ..... but that is another story all together. Too many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time. Anyways ..... the pile of raw change is on my tabletop ...... a small pile of State Quarters to the left ..... the waiting Littelton folder is there ..... the plastic container (ex use as Chinese soup delivery) is there for copper cents ..... and the glass carboy is waiting to receive all rejects. All I need to complete the picture is a cold adult beverage and I'll be good to go! BTW .... Notice the CCF T-Shirt ..... cost me $20 ..... and now there is actual evidence that Bobby and Sue can never again claim that none have been sold. Soooo ... off to searching the jar ..... David

Hey Nickelsearcher, love the man cave you have carved out for yourself. Makes me some what jealous. As for State Quarter set project. You would think with all that change you would have a bigger pile of State Quarters to add to that Littleton. Well keep us informed with the progress you make.

Good luck and have a lot of fun. Notice that you are in the East, you might have hard time finding D mints. Like wise, I am in the West, can't get P mints. While you at it, if you don't mind to find some State Quarter for me too. I will straight exchange it with same, D mints. please let me know if this acceptable to you, I will send you my list.

No worries samuel tan ...... glad to send you any extra Philly mint coins I come across. PM me your wish list. Don't need the Denver coins in exchange ..... I'm only interested in a type coin collection ........ so unless I miss out on a hole in my album nothing needed from you in exchange. Quote: love the man cave you have carved out for yourself. Indeed ... LOL .... you should see the rest of it ..... professional woodworking shop, amateur coin collector shop, desk, phone ..... all the good stuff us middle-age guys need to hide in the basement and do our stuff. Back to the jar .... David

Ahh nickelsearcher, you forgot to mention the small dorm fridge in the corner which is stocked with your favorite beverages. You have to work on that! Call it a home improvement project.
